Judge Judy: Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick (Pure Hollywood)

I’m into nude lips. Crazy for it. I like soft beige nudes with pink or brown undertones – think they best complement my skin tone. I do have a decent collection of nude lippies, most of which are liquid lipsticks. So today I shall review one of my favorite colors, but unfortunately not a favorite formula. So let’s dive into my review!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Pure Hollywood:

  • 20.00 USD for 0.11 fl oz
  • An intensely pigmented, full coverage matte lipstick
  • Delivers long-lasting, smear-resistant coverage

Described as a pale mauve nude, this is how the shade Pure Hollywood looks on me:

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Pure Hollywood:

  • An intensely pigmented, full coverage matte lipstick

I would agree that this liquid lipstick, in this rather pale nude shade is highly pigmented. The color payoff is amazing – what will be on your lips is a richer version of the color you see on the tube packaging. Color was actually too intense that I ended up blending the lipstick with my fingers to soften the intensity. I did apply the NYX lip pencil in Mauve underneath but the lipstick is so pigmented that the color of my lip pencil just disappears underneath, it doesn’t even peek through. Pure Hollywood wasn’t at all streaky upon application. In fact, it was such a pleasure to apply due to its smooth creamy fluid texture, and the applicator makes defining the edges easy.

  • Delivers long-lasting, smear-resistant coverage

Pure Hollywood dries to an almost full matte – I say almost because there is still very, very slight tackiness to it. You would definitely feel that stickiness when you purse your lips together. Which brings me to my next point… Smear-resistant? Nope. It transfers. It transferred to my cup when I drank, transferred to my hand when I did a kiss test, and transferred to my husband’s cheeks when I kissed him. I’m sure the transfer has to do with the formula being tacky, and not a complete matte. Hence, it is not long-lasting.

But my major disappointment with this product is how it can’t even withstand a 4 hour wear without cracking. Since it’s a tacky formula, I thought that it would less likely to settle in the fine lines on my lips. I wore this to a movie and some shopping (I only ate a bit of popcorn during the movie) and at the end of 4 hours, I was upset to see that it totally cracked.

Here’s how Pure Hollywood looked on my lips after 4 hours:

I’m sure you’d agree with me that the lines are pretty noticeable. The color didn’t fade (most probably since I didn’t eat much or drink) but the cracking just bothered me. It looks so unflattering personally and in photos. And I prepped my lips well before applying any lip product for that matter. So for 20 bucks, I’m disappointed that it can’t look decent for at least 4 hours. And given the texture of the cracking, I don’t think touching up with another layer mid day would look any good.

Overall, I would admit that Pure Hollywood is a lovely color. It’s a perfect nude on me. But I guess I’d only use it if I’m out for only a couple of hours and not going to have any meals when I’m out.
